Freshwater beach is north of Manly and is one of our favourite beaches in Sydney. The waves roll in smoothly and the beach rarely feels too overcrowded. There is a 50 metre ocean pool at the northern end of the beach. Within walking distance from the beach is an eclectic range of cafes and shops:
Mrs Jones the Baker: Is a relatively new addition to the streets of Freshwater. The raspberry chocolate brownie is a delicious combination of sweet chocolate and tart raspberries. They sell delicious baguettes and a large range of nut free treats. Well worth a visit.
Marilynas Pizza: We’ve been experiencing some warm evenings in Sydney in the last few months. So we’ve taken the kids down to Freshwater for a swim after school followed by pizza in the park which sits next to the beach. If you’re a fan of a beachside picnic then take away pizzas from Marilynas is an easy and tasty option.
Cruise Espresso: These guys serve a great coffee and it’s always worth grabbing a take away and walking down to the beach. You can find them at 2/2 Moore Rd, Freshwater.
In terms of shopping there is a great kids toy shop called Wonders in Freshwater which is the perfect place to pick up last-minute birthday gifts or small toys to distract on a long plane journey.
If you love clothes shopping then you can’t miss Splices Boutique which is owned and managed by two local sisters. Splices carries women’s brands such as Zimmerman, Scanlan and Theodore and Karen Walker to name but a few.
You can finish your visit to Freshwater with a walk along the coast to the next beach which is Curl Curl. There is a wooden boardwalk which meanders along the ocean cliff and is fringed by hardy coastal flowers and bushes. On big wave days it can be truly spectacular and exhilarating.
