Nominated for the Liebster Award

Liebster Award

My blog Five Flying Again has been nominated for the Liebster Award by Clare at suitcasesandsandcastles. Clare has worked on the travel desk at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph in the UK. She has two children and is an avid traveller having visited India, Canada, Peru, France and many other fantastic countries in the world. Clare’s blog is not only beautifully written it is also visually stunning and detailed. As a new blogger it is a real honour for me to be nominated by Clare.

To be honest with you prior to the nomination I didn’t know what the Liebster Award was. So I was forced to do some research and found out the following:

The Liebster Award is an award given by bloggers to new bloggers. It’s a way of welcoming new bloggers to the blogosphere and hopefully helping them to gain exposure. New bloggers means those with less than 200 followers. In German ‘liebster’ means ‘dearest’ or ‘sweetest’.

Clare at suitcasesandsandcastles has asked me to answer the following questions about myself:

What do you most enjoy about blogging? I enjoy blogging because I really like writing and creating. I also like blogging because I believe that I am writing a holiday history book for my kids that one day they can share with their families. I also enjoy the sense of community which is the blogosphere. Other bloggers are so encouraging and it makes you realise there are so many great people all over the world.

Where do you write most of your blog posts? Sitting at my dining table at home reminiscing about recent travels and daydreaming about where I would love to go next.

What’s your best piece of travel advice? Walk a few blocks away from the touristy streets. Your likely to find a local cafe or restaurant which is authentic and not overpriced.

What’s your least favourite part of travelling? Not being able to sleep on an overnight flight. I’m very tall and I can’t seem to get comfortable.

How would you describe your packing style? I’m fairly minimalist but I always notice at the end of the holiday I only wore 30% of what I packed.

What do you always take with you? My kindle, sunscreen, hat and the rest of the family.

Name three of your favourite books. The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty and I ‘m really enjoying reading  Rising Strong by Brene Brown.

Beach shack, five-star luxury hotel or gypsy caravan, what’s the best place you’ve ever stayed in? The best place I have ever stayed in is Nikoi Island in Indonesia.

What’s the worst place you’ve ever stayed in? There has been a few. We stayed in a pretty shocking hotel in Seville in Spain before we had kids.

Which place would you most like to go back to? I really like Sardinia, the food is amazing and the beaches are stunning.

What’s your biggest travel regret? Not travelling more when we lived in Singapore. The airport is super efficient and there are so many cheap flights to great destinations in Asia and beyond.

I need to now nominate 5 to 11 blogs with less than 200 followers and ask them to answer 11 questions. I’m not one to normally bend the rules but I’ve been spending hours looking for blogs with less than 200 followers and haven’t found any! It’s made me acutely aware that I have a lot of work to do to gain more followers as everyone I’ve looked at has easily cracked the 200 and dare I say 1000 followers! I’ve also realised the blogosphere is a big place and if you’re small it’s easy to go unnoticed!

Please send me your blogs if you have less than 200 followers so I can check them out for possible nomination for the award.

  1. Thanks so much, Carly, for your lovely words about my blog. I loved reading your answers. I really agree with your travel advice about moving away from the most touristy part of a place – you’re always more likely to find something more authentic that way. I really must go to Sardinia now!
